Bacchus, the magazine for wine and gourmet culture, is the organizer of the competition “RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR BACCHUS, ACQUA PANNA & S.PELLEGRINO”. The solid past, including 17 editions, through which the team has gained experience and expertise, ensures that this is the biggest and most prestigious event in the culinary calendar in Bulgaria.

In 2019, besides restaurant of the year, “BAR OF THE YEAR BACCHUS” will be also announced. The events will be held in two consecutive evenings on 30 and 31 March at Sofia Event Center. In the following lines, we share more information and reveal some interesting facts.

BAR OF THE YEAR BACCHUS

The pilot edition of this new project will take place on Saturday (March 30, 2019). It will start with masters classes suitable both for professionals and amateurs, dedicated to the international and local bar culture.

What are the latest trends in the cocktail industry, what is the past of cocktails, how many drinks with rum exist, how to pair cocktails with food, or why is it important what ice we have in the glass? These and many more questions will be answered by five lecturers from London and Athens, who will share their know-how and experience and make demonstrations.

Program Bar of the Year 2018

Besides the master classes, the guests will be able to visit the attractive stands of leading brands representing the best practices in the industry. One of the highlights will be the whiskey room, where the first whiskey bar in Sofia – Bar Caldo will present a selection of over 50 types of high-class boutique whiskeys. There will also be a food corner.

At 18:00 the evening will continue with the first bar show in Bulgaria, when 11 of the best bars in the country will quench the thirst of the guests, preparing cocktails on the spot. There will also be a visual show, a DJ party and a jazz band.

The best bars for the past year according to the team of experts from Bacchus Magazine will be officially announced during the evening.

 

INTERESTING FACT:

The evaluation system is borrowed from the European competition MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS and adapted.

Restaurant of the Year

RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR BACCHUS, ACQUA PANNA & S.PELLEGRINO

This is one of a kind and the oldest competition in Bulgaria that evaluates, recognizes and strives to support the good local restaurants. The Sunday (March 31, 2019) is dedicated to the culinary art and this year’s theme is Spanish gastronomy.

Bacchus has the honor to present one of the world’s most prestigious culinary academies, the Basque Culinary Center (BCC), which will share know-how and skills with professionals and lovers of modern cuisine. The board of directors of the academy is composed of some of the world’s most successful and progressive chefs such as Ferran Adrià, Massimo Bottura (Osteria Francescana, Modena, Italy), René Redzepi (Noma, Copenhagen, Denmark) and others.

The day will begin again with master classes, during which more, interesting questions will be answered, for example: why in the Basque region there are the most restaurants with Michelin stars? How can you turn something as simple as rice into a Michelin-star dish, and what we do not know about Valladolid? Why did the low-temperature cooking trend flood the world? Which one is the real hamon? And what have we forgotten about Bulgaria and traditional Bulgarian products and recipes?

Program Restaurant of the Year 2018

Throughout the panel, simultaneous interpretation will be provided in Bulgarian.

The night will continue at 19:00 with a gala-flamenco dinner with a 6-course menu, created by 6 different chefs from Spain and Bulgaria.

The champions in the different categories will be awarded at a special ceremony.

 

INTERESTING FACT:

This year, for the first time, a new element was introduced in the selection of restaurants – a survey of 100 people from the culinary industry – entrepreneurs, chefs, suppliers and partners of the restaurant business, culinary influencers and gourmands, marketing specialists. Their opinion shared anonymously was taken into account in the selection process.
