With summer comes that special time when restaurants open their wonderful (secret) summer gardens and challenge us to create more memories, accompanied by good food and sweet talks.
Good food awakens all the senses – our eyes, our sense of smell and that of taste. But those favorite places of ours, where we like to eat good food, have a secret “weapon” – their atmosphere, music, attitude or simply everything you need to create memories that last. You still remember the taste of food, when it’s garnished by laughter and sweet talks, right? Here are some of Sofia’s best (secret) gardens that will make you fall in love – with them, with summer or who knows – with that special person you brought there maybe?
Giuseppe’s Secret Garden
The founders of Trattoria Giuseppe Verdi call it “The House of Italian Traditions” and cherish the Italian l’arte d’arrangiarsi or the art to create something from nothing – like for instance cooking marvelous dishes from the simplest of products. This art can be found in everything that happens at the Trattoria – it’s an old house, turned into a Little Italy in the center of Sofia that is even more adorable during summer in its wonderful garden. Because greatness can be found in the simple things, you know.
Bring me that Guinness, mucker*!
Did you know that the oldest Irish pub in Sofia exists since 1998 and ever since there have been drunk thousends of liters of Guinness beer? JJ Murphy’s at Karnigradska Street in Sofia is a typical Irish pub – with lots of beer, typical Irish food and… football, of course! But wait, there’s more good news to come – the summer garden of JJ Murphy’s is already open, you can watch every game of Euro 2016 there and the Guinness is waiting for you!
*mucker – Irish slang for “buddy” or “friend”
Bodega española
The easiest way to feel the spirit of Spain, if you’re not there, is to enjoy Spanish music, Spanish cuisine and Spanish wines. And while Bulgarian weather is not far from the Spanish one, you can easily start your culinary journey through Spain, while you enjoy a glass of wine in the garden of Bodega at Tsar Asen Street in Sofia. Bear in mind that there are often special events and garden parties there, during which you can’t miss trying sangria and paella! Grab your friends and say “Hola, Bodega”!
Jazz in the garden of Aubergine
Aubergine‘s garden is hidden in a really small street in Sofia – Carnegie Street, but it’s a real treasure! You’ll find it in the yard of an ancient house, covered by ivy and flowers, where the colorful chairs and tables are welcoming you with some gentle jazz in the background. Once you’re there you can’t help but forget all the worries and hurry and simply relax. The menu can suit every taste – we’d definitely recommend the taramasalata with a glass of white wine – a perfect combination for a summer evening.
