Getting to climb the career hierarchy or build a family inevitably exhausts a significantly important resource – time. Haven’t you noticed the more we need it the less we find it. Still the few minutes we spare are strictly prioritized with what should I get for lunch rarely among the highest ones. Often it’s something quick and on the go and same goes for breakfast and dinner. Evidently it’s easier to grab something on the go but what should it be so it’s tasty, healthy and still won’t take up the most of your time?

Getting a meal on the go 101

Firstly consider the weight of the portions. Let’s face it – getting up at 8 in the morning can be tiresome but lunch gives a chance to catch up with lost energy and do something about the moodiness. That’s why we come to think we can devour the whole world. Truth is small portions are just enough to fill up the belly without making it hard to digest.

Try avoiding fried food and substitute with what’s grilled or baked. Sides-wise skip the fries and try some tasty salad instead. The salt and grease in French fries will just suck all the water in your body and make digesting food difficult.

Skip the thick dressings in salads try olive oil and balsamic vinegar or lemon instead.

Entirely skip that soda, full of artificial sweeteners and sugar and try water.

Coffee – large doses of late or cappuccino come with large doses of caffeine but also with milk and lots of calories and a substance that’s hard to digest. Go with an espresso with milk or a small cappuccino.

If you like Japanese – just get some sushi, soup or teppanyaki and stay away from tempura. Watch out for the weight of the portion – getting 20 pieces of sushi may seem enough but is actually too much.

Italian cuisine offers a true variety of light and healthy options – try vegetable antipasti, seafood, minestrone or a chicken dish. Try to avoid all these creamy cheese sauces as well as veal.

How about desert?

Trying to stay fit often makes you skip desert at lunchtime ultimately leaving you with a chocolate in the afternoon. So leave time and space for a nice tiramisu or a flan you deserve all these little pleasures and get back to work with a smile on your face.

Bon appétit!
